#PatientsUseAI: Patients are *end users* of AI
Managing our health and our care takes real work. Include us - and our requirements - in health AI discussions
Welcome to the #PatientsUseAI Substack
So much is happening so fast in AI that a few of us agreed we need to have a shared space to put news and views from all our heads.
The #PatientsUseAI hashtag was launched in March on LinkedIn. If you’re new to it (or maybe new to the whole idea of patients as thinking people with tools), start with this 19 minute “slidecast,” recreating a talk I gave last month on a panel in Boston. (Many thanks to DCI and AMIA for hosting it.)
For more background, read the full blog post that accompanied the video on my website. And here’s the summary graphic with the five categories of patient use:
Got examples?
If you have stories of patients using AI (including YOU using AI), let me know at dave@epatientdave.com! I’ve been amazed at how creative some patients are … I know a guy who spun off his own custom GPT and “trained” it on 112MB of his medical records, so he can FINALLY find things that had been lost in the fog.
Hint: if you think being a patient doesn’t require WORK, you’ll be learning a few things here. :-)
There are so many examples happening!! Need to wrote more about this and glad you have started this blog. We must learn from the past to harness the power of AI - let's flip the clinic to make our data work for us this time!
