Patients use genAI to explore OUR questions. That's autonomy.
Video podcast today, livestream and archive, on THCB Gang.
On December 19, 2024 three of us were guests on the THCB Gang podcast. We talked at length - pretty forcefully, to be honest - about how we’re already seeing generative AI give real autonomy to some patients who know how to use the tool to its full potential.
Here’s the archive of the event:
We’re at a true turning point in patient power.
Honestly, this is a turning point in history. People who can’t see that this is happening, or can’t believe when they do see it, are soon going to be far far behind the curve.
I used this graphic in May at the ICT&Health conference in Maastricht, Netherlands. The woman is throwing off her shackles, amid waves of social change, empowered and guided by data she can see on her tablet. And it’s all lit by the “supernova” of AI.
Empowerment happens by removing constraints.
Regular readers know that for years I’ve been citing the World Bank’s efforts to empower women in villages and cities. (Huge thanks to empowered Parkinson patient Sara Riggare for discovering the connection to our work.) Just a year ago last week they issued a new brief that put a new context around the subject: after decades of trying everything under the sun, they new see empowerment in this framework: you remove constraints, and the power of previously hampered people is revealed.
This is what we want, too. We want the ability to pursue our health goals, in every way we can … because it’s OUR HEALTH, for heaven’s sake. And our kids’. And our parents.
This is not about ditching doctors.
Everyone I know in this movement still sees doctors. But as the graphic above shows, there’s a LOT more that goes into receiving healthcare than just going to the doctor. AI is helping us with the workload - just as it’s doing for the doctors themselves.
We know all too well that the health system is under enormous stress.
We want to help.
